The goal of electric vehicles is to displace gasoline use. But not all EVs are the same – the extent to which an EV cuts gasoline consumption depends on how much gasoline the driver was using before switching to an EV.
As 2021 comes to an end, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on Coltura’s accomplishments this past year. We’re very proud of our work advancing the gasoline phaseout movement and are especially grateful to our supporters who have made this progress possible.
Despite increasing EV adoption levels in the U.S., gasoline consumption is on the rise. Coltura and Joint Venture Silicon Valley introduced the Beyond Gasoline Initiative with the goal of slashing carbon emissions from burning gasoline in cars, trucks, and SUVs in half by 2030.
The Biden Administration made several important clean vehicle policy announcements this month, including new fuel efficiency and emissions standards and an Executive Order setting a national target for electric vehicles to make up half of all new vehicle sales by 2030. Meanwhile, the Senate approved an infrastructure bill with $7.5 billion in spending for EV charging.
